Commodities market: rice and pulses undergo sharp fluctuations

Some essential commodities maintained sharp rise such as rice, masoor, gram, dal, beetle chana I 50x50 etc while tea was down during the week ended on April 28, 2007. Other commodities moved modestly either ways.
Some unreported commodities were following: fluctuation reported, grams Australia low type was down by Rs 25 to Rs 2450, while better type shed Rs 75 to Rs 2600, beetle chana I inferior type lost Rs 50 to Rs 2350, and the superior type was down by Rs 25 to Rs 2500, beetle 50x50 was down by Rs 50 to Rs 2900 while better type was quoted at Rs 3000.
On Jodia Bazar Kirana items in a couple of changes moved both ways. Big cardamom closed lower by Rs 500 to Rs 10,600, cloves edged higher by Rs 800 to Rs 10,600 and Sago moved higher by Rs 40 to Rs 1,260.
On Monday, however, grain markets showed some changes such as Masoor Australia closed higher by Rs 50 to Rs 3350, masoor Canada also made same gain to Rs 3300, masoor dal Canada rose sharply by Rs 100 to Rs 3700, wheat Mexipak old and new lost Rs 5 to Rs 1135 and better was quoted at Rs 1150, Irri while low type gained Rs 40 to Rs 1410.
On Tuesday tea prices dived down as importers made noises about increasingly high case of smuggling. The govt was expected to move to check or minimise smuggling to stabilise tea prices. However (per kg) PF-A grade closed lower by Rs 10 to Rs 175, B grade finished lower by Rs 10 to Rs 60, plus C grade finished down Rs 12 to Rs 145, BP-1 A grade retreated by Rs 10 to Rs 190, B grade finished down Rs 7 to Rs 174, plus C grade lost Rs 4 to Rs 166, and closed lower by Rs 4 to Rs 158. Elsewhere grain market saw a solo changes in cottoncake with bags low type shed Rs 50 to Rs 500 while better type was down Rs 10 to Rs 630, gram Australia shed 25 to Rs 2500 while better type was quoted at Rs 2650.
On Wednesday juwar low type finishing low type finishing lower by Rs 10 to Rs 1090, while better type shed Rs 5 to Rs 1100, masoor dal closed higher by Rs 100 to Rs 3800, Guwar Sindh good type closed sharply down by Rs 75 to Rs 1900, while inferior type was quoted at Rs 1700, Basmati 386 closed higher Rs 100 to Rs 365 and better type was quoted at Rs 3700, Super Karnal old closed higher by Rs 50 to Rs 3750 and better was quoted at Rs 3800, rapeseed Nawabshah finished higher by Rs 50 to Rs 1080 and better was quoted at Rs 1010, from Dadu same item was higher by Rs 25 to Rs 910 and better was selling at Rs 915 and rapeseed cakes rose by Rs 10 to Rs 370 and better type quoted at Rs 375.
On Thursday Jodia Bazar reported fluctuation is plastic mouldings showing rise in prices: HDPE film per lb Saudia 952 finished higher by 50 paisa to Rs 48, mobil moved higher by50 paisa to Rs 47.75, HDPE injection Sabic 200056 quoted at Rs 55, and Iran gained Re 1 to Rs 51, HDPE blow marlex finished up by 25 paisa to Rs 48, LDPE 374 rose by 25 paisa to Rs 48, LDPE 374 closed higher by Rs 2 to Rs 54, LLDPE W118 closed up by Rs 1.50 to Rs 49, 7087 moved higher by Rs 150 to Rs 48.50, and Sabic 500026 rose by Re 1 to Rs 51, polypropylene film Thai was quoted at Rs 55, Kuwait was up 50 paisa to Rs 46, and India turned higher 75 paisa to Rs 46.25, polypropylene tape grade India moved higher by 75 paisa to Rs 45.25, Kuwait ended higher by 75 paisa to Rs 45.25, and Saudia finished with gain by 75 paisa to Rs 45.25, polypropylene injection grade Saudia ended higher by 25 paisa to Rs 45.25, India also gained same amount to Rs 45.25 and Kuwait rose by 25 paisa to Rs 45.25. ABS polylac 707 quoted at Rs 3,340, and Iran was quoted at Rs 3230. Elsewhere following variations were noted: Gram Australia up sharply by Rs 100 to Rs 2600 and better type was quoted at Rs 27.50, gram dal Australia up Rs 100 to Rs 3100 and better quoted at Rs 3200, beetle chana I rose by Rs 250 to Rs 2600 and better was quoted at Rs 2750, 50x50 was up sharply by Rs 200 to Rs 2450 and better type was quoted at Rs 2600 to Rs 2450 and better type was quoted at Rs 2600 and dal beetle sharply rose by Rs 300 to Rs 3200 and better type was quoted at Rs 3300, Irri Sindh 6 low type rose by Rs 5 to Rs 1445, better type rose by Rs 10 to Rs 1470.
On Friday raw rubber showed mixed trend and RSSV was quoted at Rs 68 and Pale Crape TPC 3 rose by Rs 2 to Rs 75, Latex Semnan tex closed down by Rs 5 to Rs 485 and Thai (GT) closed lower by Rs 5 to Rs 485. On Saturday markets presented a lacklustre picture. Prices moved in a narrow range and fluctuation were marginal.
