Arrangements for Sufi festival finalised

Stakeholders here finalised arrangements for ' Sufi festival' to be held in Karachi. In this regard a meeting was held in the Governor's House, with Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan in the chair.
Sindh Finance Adviser, M A Jalil, Chief Secretary Shakeel Durrani, Secretaries of Culture, Excise and Taxation departments, City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal, and Rafi Pir Theater office-bearers, the organisers of the proposed festival, attended the meeting.
The meeting was told that the festival would be held in Bara-Dari, Karachi, from May 3 to 7, 2007 and it would be first big event of its kind in public-private partnership. It urged for seeking cooperation from concerned provincial and city government departments. It was decided that a big chunk of income from this festival would be donated to the Legend Trust.
The meeting was told that more that 300 local and international artists would participate in the festival. Five concerts would be held of Sufi music and singing. Traditional Hamd and Naat, Qawalis and Kafis would also be presented.
The governor said that the Sufi festival in future would be a permanent feature of the city.
