Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco)'s recovery campaign against defaulting provincial government departments is in full swing. The power supplies to the departments that failed to pay the arrears before the expiry of the deadline have been disconnected.
Some 12 connections of the provincial government departments of Hazara Circle including 3 of education department, 4 Health, one Irrigation department and 3 Public Health Department have been disconnected. Rupees 7.1 million have been recovered from different provincial departments of Hazara circle.
At least 5 power connections of the provincial and local bodies departments in Swat circle including WSS Kalapani, Osakai, Utala Bagh, Street light booster & telephone exchange have also been disconnected as their outstanding arrears of Rs 111,307 were not paid. Three irrigation department's power supply were also disconnected in Mardan for non-payment of Rs 781,726.
It is worth mentioning here that Pesco has over Rs 1.28 outstanding arrears against different provincial and federal government departments, for which Pesco had requested all the government departments to pay their respective dues by 26th April 2007 otherwise their power supply would be disconnected. Implementing the directives of Chief Executive Pesco Brigadier Sakhi Marjan Pesco field staff has started disconnection and recovery campaign that is in full swing.
It is pertinent to mention that Pesco is continuously facing shortage of funds to provide better facilities to its consumers, due to non-payment by some defaulting departments as and by private individuals also. Chief Executive Pesco Brigadier Sakhi Marjan at this occasion directed all the field offices to disconnect the electricity connections of the defaulter institutions if they fail to deposit their outstanding arrears.
