South Africa's Crop Estimates Committee put the final estimate of the 2006/07 wheat crop at around 2.11 million tonnes on Thursday, down from its previous forecast of roughly 2.12 million. The committee reduced its forecast after dry weather hit the crop, particularly in the Free State.
Despite one of the worst droughts in years, the 06/07 harvest is at this stage expected to be bigger than last year's 1.91 million tonnes.
