Illegal excise duty refund: action against payphone companies to recover Rs 370 million soon

The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has decided to launch adjudication proceedings for recovery of Rs 370 million from the payphone companies following vacation of stay order by the high court. Sources told Business Recorder on Wednesday the Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected an application of payphone companies.
Now, the CBR is in a position to launch adjudication proceedings against them. The board had submitted its reply before the LHC in cases of illegal excise duty refund claims to the tune of Rs 370 million.
The payphone companies had obtained a stay order from the court. On hearing both the sides, the court vacated the stay order and the CBR will be in a position to file FIRs against these companies after completion of necessary adjudication proceedings, sources added.
