11 May, 2007

The Economic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet has allowed Port Qasim Authority (PQA) to sign Implementation Agreement (IA) with Pakistan GasPort Limited for setting up offshore LNG import terminal. Dr Ashfaque said that the ECC, in its meeting on April 10 had approved the proposal in principle but today formal approval accorded.
When he was informed that PQA and Associated Group signed the IA on April 28 before the formal approval of ECC, Dr Ashfaque was surprised to hear. "This question should be asked to Secretary Ports and Shipping as I am not aware of this development," he added.
Dr Ashfaque was also asked if this was an ex-post facto approval for signing IA, he replied in the negative. "No, it is formal approval for signing the IA," he clarified.
