Karachi fish harbour cleanliness: Senate panel sets Monday deadline for proposals

Senator Nisar Memon, Convenor of the Sub-Committee on Defence and Defence Production has specified Monday as the last day to submit draft proposals about tackling the issue of garbage dumps and degradation of Karachi harbour.
The senator issued this notice to Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pepa), EPA, Sindh, Karachi Fish Harbour Authority, Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Air Force, Maritime Security in the Friday meeting of the Sub-Committee at the Parliament House.
The meeting discussed matters regarding the possibility of revival of the Pollution Control Board with powers to check elements responsible for creating the problem, including the issue of arresting it. It called for co-ordination among various agencies, and it appealed to the stakeholders for details of existing laws and the hurdles in their implementation.
Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency, Sindh and the Maritime Fishing Department made presentation to the sub-committee, attended by Senators Nisar A. Memon and Asif Jatoi as well as senior officials of Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Air Force, Ministry of Ports and Shipping, Pepa and Karachi city government.
