A bunch of brilliant Pakistani students has secured second position in National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa)'s international high school team essay contest to describe "Air Transportation in 2057." The talented Pakistani students hail from Lahore Grammar School with the team including Fatima Ahmed, Rida Fatima Waseem, Zain Umer and Laila Khalid.
The high school "Air Transportation in 2057" competition was open to any high school student, US or foreign. Students were asked to imagine living and working 50 years from now, and to write an original essay describing how air and space transportation have changed due to the successful implementation of new aeronautics technologies. Students who chose to compete as teams were also asked to support their views with illustrations and/or interviews with peers, parents, or other community members.
The South African team notched up the top position while Romanians occupied third place in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration essay contest in the international team category.
Students from across the United States and six foreign countries submitted 88 essays in four categories: US individual, US team, international individual and international team. In all, 14 teams and 75 individual students submitted essays to Nasa's Fundamental Aeronautics Programme, which sponsored the contest. According to Nasa, the essays were reviewed by 24 Nasa managers and engineers from four Nasa centres. The Nasa will award the top scoring essays with a trophy.
