Pasban Pakistan claimed successful strike on Friday against major civic issues of load shedding and street crimes, without any incident of firing or torching of vehicles in Karachi.
'Neither a bullet was fired, nor vehicle torched during peaceful strike', said Pasban Pakistan President Altaf Shakoor and General Secretary Usman Moazam while addressing a news conference at Karachi Press Club (KPC).
They charged MQM could not tolerate peaceful movement, as their banners were pulled down, 26 workers were tortured and detained by police. 'At least twelve of our workers were injured and four still in detention', he added.
Pasban leaders said oppressed Karachiites had been deprived of right to protest and asserted Pasban wanted to bring a positive change to people and return their right to protest against atrocities being meted out to them.
They pointed out that though current power crisis hit entire city, the worst hit city areas were Lyari, Baldia, Orangi, Korangi, Landhi and Malir. They claimed public support from these localities and said without any fear of hooliganism, terrorism and torture most of big markets remained closed in these areas in protest.
Up to 90 percent public transport remained off roads, despite administration's attempt to bring them forcibly on road. Pasban leaders made clear that they neither wanted money or vote, nor they had any clash with other political parties. 'We have voiced against wrong decisions of government like banning pillion riding, failing to eliminate corruption, rising robberies and looting of people, extortion and police atrocities."
