Israeli media reported Saturday that Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni has said any future Palestinian state would require Israel to withdraw from the West Bank. Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni made the comments in an interview with Egypt's al-Ahram newspaper during a trip to Cairo this week and published Saturday, according to a report in the online edition of the Jerusalem Post.
"The majority of the Israeli nation understands not only the need for peace, but also the need to compromise for a solution to achieve this peace," Livni told al-Ahram, according to the report.
While the Jewish state was ready to move forward in negotiations with Palestinians, the path to the creation of a Palestinian state "begins with the denunciation of terrorism," she said.
The Israeli minister travelled to Cairo earlier this week for the first talks ever between Israelis and Arabs concerning the Arab peace initiative for the Middle East. She highlighted, what she described as the important role of the Arab world in working for peace in the region.
