Some informers working for the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) have repeatedly obtained huge rewards on detection of income tax concealment cases during the last five years. This astonishing aspect has been disclosed in a written reply of the CBR given to the National Assembly on Monday.
Interestingly, the CBR has disclosed the names of these registered informers. However, addresses of the informers have not been specified in the list.
According to the CBR data, the board has paid reward to the non-official informers in 37 cases during the last five years. For example, an informer Abdul Rahman Baber has obtained rewards in seven different income tax cases during the period under review. Secondly, Syed Pervaiz Mehdi has claimed rewards in four income tax cases.
An informer Shaukat Ali has obtained rewards in eight income tax cases during the last five years. Syed Naseer Haider has claimed income tax rewards in two cases. It seemed that selected persons have enjoyed the reward system of the CBR during the last five years. List of rewards also showed that income tax evasion was detected by 3-4 persons working for the CBR.
