Education plays vital role in creating peace: German envoy

Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany to Pakistan Dr Gunter Mulack has said that education plays vital role to create peace, inter-faith harmony and understanding among the various communities globally, in this regard Germany is providing educational facilities to the needy students in the shape of DAFI scholarship.
He was addressing the participants of annual function of International Club UAF here on Thursday at Iqbal Auditorium as a guest of honour. He maintained that Pakistan has been supporting and looking after the Afghan refugees in a great number with brotherly thinking which is the unique example.
Dr Gunter Mulack asked the Afghan students for capacity enhancing programmes offered by higher learning institutions of Pakistan to prepare themselves as a tool of reconstruction process of Afghanistan. He urged the need for more higher education scholarships for the Afghan students in the context of capacity building. Dr Gunter lauded the educational standards of UAF and said that this oldest and biggest university of Asia has produced commendable results during last ten decades.
Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Bashir Ahmad in his address as a chief guest said that UAF is providing excellent facilities to the students from abroad and offering ten time cheaper educational facilities as compare to any university of advanced countries. He maintained that an international residential block has been constructed at Rajawala for foreign students to provide them residential facilities of international standards.
Ahmad Farid Haidery Cultural Attaché of Afghanistan in his address highlighted the role of Pakistan for the facilitation of Afghan brothers since last few decades. He said that we can never forget the kindness of Pakistani brothers and we will continue to maintain our relations in spite of some misunderstanding, which would be removed very soon. He lauded the role of UAF for decorating Afghan students with educational and research facilities.
Nasir Azam Sahibzada, Representative of UNHCR highlighted the DAFI programme that helps young scholars to take part in higher learning activities with the help of German government. He said that Abdul Waqeel the legendary character of Afghanistan's agriculture sector was graduated in 1947 from this university. He further said that many alumni of UAF are working in various government organisations and NGOs in Afghanistan and they are presenting themselves as Ambassador of this alma matter. Co-ordinator international club Dr Muhammad Yunis highlighted the role of international club and said that character building is our main focus along with educational and research skills.
President international club Sadar-ud Din, Secretary Hamid Ullah and other students also spoke on the occasion. Senior Tutor Dr Muhammad Saddique Javed thanked the distinguished guests and audience.
