Punjab government would not deprive any one of his livelihoods as a result of the ban on two-stroke rickshaws under Green Punjab Scheme. Punjab Law and Local government Minister Muhammad Basharat Raja expressed these views while presiding over a joint meeting of representatives of transport department and auto rickshaw drivers' union here on Saturday, disclosed an official.
The minister constituted a committee headed by DCO Lahore to prepare schedule of phase-wise ban on two-stroke rickshaws in Lahore after consultation with the office-bearers of the union and authorities of transport department. He directed the committee to submit its report within two days and advised the transport department to suspend implementation of ban on two stroke rickshaws on Jail Road till final recommendations of the committee.
He also directed the authorities of the transport department to evolve a comprehensive plan to promote the technology of conversion of two-stroke rickshaws into CNG rickshaws.
