Pakistan needs more nursing training institutes to prepare our nurses according to the international standards, Aziz Ahmed Jan, Chief Operating Officer of Shifa International Hospital, said while addressing the 'International Nurses Day' celebrated here at Shifa International on Saturday.
He said that nursing is a noble profession as it serves ailing humanity, supporting those in need and giving care to others. He went on to say, "It involves the giving of intimate personal care during stress and also at the edges of life and death. It's time to reflect on how nurses have been understood and appreciated in the past and to continue doing so in future". Nursing as a profession has developed and expanded from a patient-centred approach, to family-centred and community-orientated care.
The HEC has to develop programmes that could consistently help in recruiting and retaining new nurses. He emphasised that all the educational institutions and medical disciplines should be involved in developing nursing curriculum keeping in view the needs of the profession.
Dr Hadija Hadjirul, Chief of Nurses at Shifa International Hospital, said that 'International Nurses Day' is celebrated throughout the world in the memory of Florence Nightingale who was the founder of nursing. She stressed that nurses should be given quality health education.
