Senate Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro has stressed the need for enhancing trade ties and co-orperation in the fields of education, health and agriculture between Pakistan and Cuba. He was talking to Cuban deputy foreign minister Rodrigues Parilla, who called on him here on Saturday.
The chairman said the two countries were playing positive and significant role as members of NAM and UN. These ties should be extended to other sectors such as science and technology, commerce and trade in which the two countries could work together for mutual benefit.
The Cuban deputy foreign minister said that his country wanted to further strengthen bilateral ties with Pakistan. He also called for stepping up co-operation between the two parliaments to share technical expertise.
"Geo-strategic location makes Pakistan a very important country of the region and that is the reason Havana is desirous to further strengthen bilateral ties," he observed.
The Senate chairman also thanked Cuba for providing timely help for earthquake victims last October, which demonstrated the love and affection of Cuban people and their government for establishing friendly relations with Pakistan in a number of fields.
Soomro particularly praised the devotion of Cuban doctors and paramedical staff that went deep inside the quake hit areas to provide quick medical assistance to the affected people.
