British scientists have invented an environmentally friendly all-in-one cooker, generator and refrigerator, which could help the world's poorest communities. Biomass fuels such as wood or animal waste is burned into energy to power the appliance.
The combustion leads to changes in air pressure in the device, which produce sound waves. According to a media report, a mechanism in the device then coverts these into electricity which can either warm or cool the food.
Named as the SCORE project which stands for Stove for Cooking, Refrigeration and Electricity-it offers a more efficient way of using wood as a fuel. A consortium including Imperial College, University College London and Queen Mary's University is making the revolutionary gadget.
