SSGC hands over homes to quake affectees

Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has handed over two earthquake resistant model homes to the widows in Nirhal and Palyani villages in Garhi Habibullah in District Mansehra.
According to a SSGC press release here on Tuesday, Chairman Senate Mohammad Mian soomro had handed over the keys of these homes to two widows of October 8, devastated earthquake victims, at a simple ceremony on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, chairman Senate said that the women and children of these valleys were, undoubtedly, immense sufferers of the natural calamity of October 8, 2005 and it was appreciable that witnessing their sorry predicament, SSGC decided to initiate a pilot project to construct earthquake resistant homes.
"I appreciate SSGC's support in rebuilding and I call upon other institutions, organisations, philanthropists and NGOs to come forward to collaborate with SSGC in alleviating the pain and suffering of people whose lives are still in doldrums, even after nearly two years of that unfortunate day". He said that the implementation of the pilot project should further pave way for many such purpose-built homes.
Munawar Baseer Ahmad, MD, SSGC thanked corporate partners Lucky Cement and Dadabhoy Industries for material contribution and Aman Sarai Foundation for rendering design and architectural support for this pilot project. He expressed gratitude to United Nation Association of Pakistan (UNAP) for its valuable assistance in identifying the widows, orphans and the destitute as primary beneficiaries of the project.
