Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) has established a regional office here to promote exports from Sindh. According to a TDAP official here on Tuesday, the government had decided to focus on those products, which were being produced in the province and could be exported but failed to get attention in the past.
"For this purpose we have established a new regional office of TDAP for Sindh in Karachi. This office would gather information about these items and meet their producers to prepare plan to promote the exports of these items", he added.
He said that the regional office would develop a database on these products, their producers and exporters. He pointed out that similar regional offices were already in operation in three provinces, but no regional office was created for Sindh. It had been done now, he noted.
Initially, four sectors, including agriculture items, horticulture products, seafood and minerals have been identified for this purpose. However, a wide variety of items are produced in each of these sectors and they have to be identified.
Most of the producers of agriculture and horticulture items do not know how to export their surplus. They sell them in the local market at a very low price.
The official said the regional office would invite people, who were producing those items, which could be exported from Sindh. This effort would help in adding the new exportable items in the list of country's exports, he opined.
