The Federal Government has approved Rs 358.619 million project for upgrading the existing Department of Biochemistry at the University of Arid Agriculture, Rawalpindi (UAAR) to the level of University Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology (UIBB).
The funds have been approved by the Planning and Development Division with the aim to start human resource development in terms of education and research at graduate and post-graduate levels in the fields of biochemistry, biotechnology and bioinformatics, said sources on Monday.
They said that the UIBB would have three sections, including biochemistry with two sub-sections on biochemistry and agriculture biochemistry; biotechnology, with three sub-sections on animal/health biotechnology, and plant biotechnology and environmental biotechnology; and bioinformatics.
They said that the project would help improve the quality of teaching and research in the field of biochemistry. It is also envisaged that these research facilities would attract more postgraduate students at the University.
