'Parties be allowed to set up channels, radio stations'

Pakistan People's Party has asked the government to allow political parties to set up their own radio stations, television channels for launching their election campaign and highlight their manifestos. Former prime minister Benazir Bhutto reportedly asked her party leadership in Pakistan to apply to Pemra for the grant of licence.
According to PPP Punjab leader Khawaja Rizwan Alam the Party chairperson had said that moderate political parties should be provided appropriate means to propagate their viewpoint on various issues to counter propaganda by extremists. She said that extremist groups had set up radio stations on government land. These groups were kidnapping people and forcing them to live according to their own version of Islam.
