Punjab University organises seminar on biodiversity

Punjab University's Department of Zoology organised a seminar on the theme 'Biodiversity and Climate Change' in connection with International Day of 'Biological Diversity'.
President, International Federation of Bee-keeping Association, France Dr Gillies Ratia was the chief guest while Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Professor Dr Shahida Hasnain chaired the seminar. Speaking on the occasion, Chairman, Department of Zoology Professor Dr Muhammad Akhtar briefed the audience about the aims and objectives of the seminar.
In his lecture on 'Bees, Biodiversity and Global Warming' Dr Gillies Ratia pointed out various factors affecting the honeybee population world-wide, depletion of honeybee colonies and the causes of reduction in the production on honey.
Professor Dr Shahida Hasnain stressed on the need of study of 'Biodiversity of Pakistan' ie our indigenous biodiversity especially of Northern Areas. She said that we must make our own people aware of this issue. A large number of students and faculty members attended the seminar.
