Iesco begins 400 projects worth Rs 119 million

The Islamabad Electricity Supply Company (Iesco) has started work on above 400 projects costing more than Rs 119 million and completion of these projects would improve transmission of electricity and decrease load shedding and power pilferage.
A spokesman of the company while highlighting the development projects said Iesco was committed to provide smooth electric supply to its consumers and avoid any inconvenience to them regarding the load shedding.
The Iesco had installed 40 megawatt transformer in Rawalpindi Cantonment Grid Station while a mobile grid was installed in I-8 sector of Islamabad to decrease the pressure on other transformers, he said.
He said the company had completed 384 projects costing Rs 63 million to upgrade the transmission system of the electricity and improve the LT voltage. He said that 10 projects to improve the high voltage system had been completed with the cost of Rs 26 million.
Moreover, 10 projects of Rs 30 million for improvement in transmission of electricity were in progress and would be completed very soon. Talking on power theft, he said that the Iesco had taken serious note of the power theft to avoid the power theft and line losses. He said that raiding parties were constituted to keep strict check on the power pilferers.
He said that 15,000 old meters had been replaced by the Iesco without charging any extra payment from consumers. A system was evolved to facilitate consumers in getting new meters installed as they would get the demand note within a week, he said adding that during this year more than 30,000 new connections had been given to people.
He said that more than 900 line staff in City Circle of Iesco Rawalpindi had been given proper training to perform their duties in a better way and 260 officials from technical grade were promoted. He said that strict check and balance was introduced in the company to avoid any sort of mismanagement and corruption.
He said that Iesco city circle was providing electricity to more than 600,000 consumers. He further said that Iesco was busy in construction of two new grid stations at Chakri and Satellite Town and completion of these grid stations would help reduce the load shedding in these areas. He said that load increase had reached to record 10 percent this year.
