13228 tons seed found up to standard

Public and private sectors seed agencies offered 15245 MT seed of different crops for testing/certification and 13228 MT of seed was found up to the standard in the country. According to official sources, tested quantity of imported seed was 1652. This resulted in a total testing of about 16253 MT seed by FSC&RD field labs.
Major testing included that of cotton, paddy, fodder's, Mugbeen, maize, wheat, oilseed, and Okra, seed after processing/re-tests while in some labs testing of cotton and paddy have also been reported.
More than 430 seed samples representing about 558 MT of cotton and vegetable seeds imported from foreign and submitted by different field stations, were tested at Central Seed Testing Laboratory Islamabad. Four hundred ninety six MT of tested seed was within prescribed standards.
Fifty-nine samples of vegetable crop submitted by different field laboratories representing to about 245 MT were tested for fungal diseases and ELISA. At least 245 MT was found within the tolerant limits. At field stations of different regions, about 128917 acres of different crops planted for seed production, both by public and private sector corporations were inspected to verify for field crop standards. Major crops inspected in the field included wheat and oil seeds and gram.
