Plea to withdraw sales tax on computers

Representatives of Computer Vendors Association (CVA) have said that 15 percent sales tax on computer industry is causing a downfall in IT industry of the country.
Addressing a news conference here, Munawar Iqbal, Ibrahim Qureshi, Muhammad Moosa, Asif Shahzad, Saleem Balagham and Arshad Junjuwa said that the government has imposed a 15 percent sales tax on computer hardware industry, which is a major hurdle in the progress of computer and IT industry.
They said that because of sales tax, growth in computer and IT industry has declined from 30 percent to 50 percent, therefore, the government should withdraw this sales tax in the forthcoming budget for betterment of the industry. They announced that their dialogue with the government on the issue of sales tax will continue till the ministry of finance removes this hurdle causing downfall to the industry.
