Curbs on media to prove ineffective: PML-N

05 Jun, 2007

Central Secretary Finance PML (N) Muhammad Pervaiz Malik, MNA, has said that restrictions on media would prove ineffective as efforts to control media through administrative measures is doomed to fail. Malik said here on Monday due to ill-conceived decisions of the government, the country was passing through worst ever crisis and anarchy.
'All sections of the civil society are making protests against the government. People are on the roads to defy the state decisions. Historic cases for the freedom of judiciary and civil liberties are in progress in the apex courts in which not only the Pakistani nation but the entire world is taking interest', he said.
He said those who were taking credit of free press, are themselves trying to suppress the media while it is basic right of the people to have an access on the information. The media has secured independence after a great struggle and not because of the government and it cannot be undermined, he added.
He said the people who are deprived of everything including politics, government of their own, democracy and resources, have nothing but to air their voice and concern which is also being suppressed.
