Lawyers observe token strike

The lawyers' community observed their token strike here in metropolis in protest against the suspension of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. They did not appear before the courts for one hour and sat-in the hunger strike camps organised by Lahore High Court Bar, Lahore Bar and Adliya Bchao Committee (ABC) at the bar premises.
The senior bar members, office-bearers of the bars, political party workers, human rights activists and members of other organisations of civil society also joined the camps.
While expressing their solidarity with lawyers and their struggle, they chanted slogans against the government, President General Pervez Musharraf, Altaf Husain, Chief Minister Punjab and other allies of the government.
They assured the lawyers and their representatives to continue their support in their struggle for revival of Chief Justice Pakistan. They also demanded the government to withdraw reference against Chief Justice Pakistan and release Dr Qadeer from house arrest.
