LHCBA moves to settle funds controversy

The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has amended the bar rules and added the name of bar president in signatories to resolve the issue of release of funds for expenditure incurred on the function of Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The finance secretary Ruby Awan had refused to sign the cheque for the funds acquired for the expenditures of functions arranged at the arrival of Chief Justice Pakistan Iftikhar Muhamamd Chaudhry at bar. She was of the view that neither the quotations nor the contracts were approved by the executive body of the bar.
President bar had got the approval of the expenditures in a general body but finance secretary had refused to accept the decision of the body and termed it a violation of rules and regulations of the bar. The bar president had announced to call another body to present her point of view before the bar.
The bar also decided to cancel the membership of a bar member Ijaz Ahmed who had attacked on secretary bar at the eve of the arrival of Chief Justice Pakistan. The bar also decided to take action against the other bar members who supported Ijaz Ahmed. The bar also condemned the action of the government against electronic media and blocking of programmes and broadcasting of different private channels.
