World standard university project planned for Mirpur

05 Jun, 2007

Initial work, including steps for site selection, has started for the establishment of a university of international standard in Mirpur to extend quality education to the students.
Official sources told APP here on Monday that since the Federal government had recently accorded formal approval for the emergence of the proposed Mirpur University, the university would be built on the pattern of other nine big universities announced to be established by the Federal government in various parts of the country. It would be first of its own kind in Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK).
The authorities concerned in AJK have been directed to select and reserve a suitable piece of 4000 kanals of land for the proposed Mirpur University.
The university will be of international standard after all required higher academic facilities would be provided with the co-ordination and co-operation of Bradford University, the sources revealed.
Overseas Kashmiris especially Britain-based Kashmiri settlers will be involved in the construction process of the university. The idea of the maximum involvement of the British Kashmiris in the mega varsity project is to encourage and provide opportunities to the new generation of the overseas Kashmiris to get the higher education in all required fields at the site (Mirpur) close to their ancestral places.
To expedite and finalise the matters relating to the establishment of Mirpur University project, a high-level committee has recently been constituted. The committee has been assigned the responsibility of the site selection for this project.
