Speeches at lawyers' seminar

05 Jun, 2007

It is hard to deny the unprecedented unity and strength demonstrated by the legal fraternity on May 26 at Islamabad. Lawyers from all parts of the country participated in the seminar on the independence of judiciary.
However, the speeches delivered in the meeting were less on the topic and more against the government. Some participants used very harsh language, the sort of bitter words that are usually indicative of a weak cause. Some speakers stooped so low as to break all norms of decency.
While purporting to seek justice and rule of law, they vehemently violated the very essence of the law. The prominent members of the Bar also used unbalanced language, and in some cases, they threw challenges as the wrestlers do in the TNA Explosion TV programme to their opponents. Thus they betrayed the dignity of their noble profession. The seminar was more of a political meeting than a seminar.
