Kharal condemns curbs on media

Former Minister for Information and Secretary General PPP Federal Council Khalid Ahmad Kharal here on Tuesday strongly condemned the government's action to make amendments in the Pemra Ordinance to put more restrictions on TV channels to halt media independence.
Stating that it was a deadly blow to the freedom of media in two days. It clearly shows the nervousness of the government with the way the true colour of it was being exposed by the media, he added.
He said that it was a tragic that the government had been reportedly preventing live coverage of seminars, protests and rallies, organising for the independence of judiciary, by the electronic media he averred. He stressed that the authorities should take back all the measures immediately that are imposed on the media, which is against the honour of the values of independence of media.
