Musharraf to be re-elected before polls: Rashid

07 Jun, 2007

Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has said that President General Pervez Musharraf would be re-elected from the present assemblies before the general elections.
In an interview with a private television channel, he said the presidential election would be the mother of all elections and would decide the future set-up in the country.
"Only those people, who will deliver in this tenure, will be re-elected," he added. To a question about media restrictions, he said it should realise its power and use it for the betterment of the country. "The media should not politicise any issue or should not give extra-ordinary coverage to a particular issue," he added.
About the presidential reference against Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, he said the case was in the Supreme Court, however, he said the government would accept the court decision. "It is a constitutional reference and let the courts decide on this issue," he maintained.
To another question, Sheikh Rashid said that common people did not bother about the issue of the CJ but their real issue was the price of commodities. They discuss with each other the prices of flour, ghee, pulses and other commodities. He said he was not against the freedom of media but media should behave responsibly and within the limits of decency.
