KW&SB not supplying allocated water quota to Site

10 Jun, 2007

Acting Chairman Rauf A Sattar and Vice Chairman Asif Siddiq of Site Association of Industry have strongly criticised the KW&SB for not supplying the allocated quota of water to Site area for the last 25 days.
They said that inadequate supply of water from 18" dia water connection near Post Office and 24" dia water connection at Banarus Chowk with low pressure has disturbed the production schedule of more than 2000 industries and they are heading towards closure.
They said presently KW&SB has curtailed the supply from 6 MGD to 4 MGD against allocated quota of 8 MGD. Despite repeated requests KW&SB authorities has done nothing to augment the supply of water to SITE area and its disturbed scheduling and curtailment in water supply.
Asif Siddiq, Vice Chairman said that at one end the government is making tall claims about growth and investment, while we at SITE (the oldest and the biggest industrial area in Pakistan) are still writing and requesting to the concerned authorities for providing only 8 MGD water, which is 25% of our total requirement.
The rest is being replenished by water tankers. Adding further he said that it is pathetic o note that the industries are left on the mercy of Tankers Mafia. "We, the industrialists, do not get this
Water free of cost. Tankers rates are going up day by day due to high transportation cost and subsequently adding to our production cost which is rendering us uncompetitive nationally and internationally."
They urged Governor of Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad and Minister for Industries Muhammad Adil Siddiqi to come to their rescue and direct the KW&SB Managing Director for maintaining the scheduled timing without unjustified break down, so that the SITE Ltd could be able To distribute the water to the industry otherwise the closure of industries is definite.
