SNGPL clarifies position on gas supply to Kapco

12 Jun, 2007

This refers to an item, which appeared in "Business Recorder" on June 7, 2007 under the head of "Wapda protests against reduction in gas supply to Kapco" whereby Wapda has demanded an enhanced gas allocation for Kapco.
Despite SNGPL's contractual obligation of supplying only 70 MMCFD gas on eight months basis (March 16 to November 14) in a year to Kapco, SNGPL has supplied, on an average basis, quantities of 182, 198, and 206 MMCFD gas respectively to Kapco in the months of April, May and June (up to June 10) this year, whereas cumulative average day supplies for the month of May to Wapda's Muzaffargarh, Multan, Faisalabad and Shahdara power plants was 76 MMCFD against their cumulative allocation of 60 MMCFD gas. Besides these power plants, SNGPL has also started supplying 40 MMCFD gas to one of Wapda's rented power plant starting this year.
To meet Wapda's demand in this hour of need, SNGPL is already curtailing gas supplies to cement sector and diverting all the gas available on its system to Wapda for meeting power shortage.
SNGPL would like to emphasise that the demand/consumption of gas has increased on its system compared with the last fiscal year 2005-06 as the number of consumers including industrial, commercial and domestic have increased by 169,434 as of March 2007, but this increase has not been supplemented vis-a-vis by increased supplies of gas from gas fields.-PR
