Speakers at a seminar on Monday underlined the need for making collective efforts for welfare and rehabilitation of street children.
The seminar on "Analysis of Enforcement Gaps in Child Related Protection Laws" was organised by National Commission for Child Welfare and Development (NCCWD), Ministry of Social Welfare and Special Education in collaboration with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to review the laws related to child protection issues in the country.
Director NCCWD Muhammad Hassan Mangi briefed the participants about the efforts and role of the Ministry in this regard. He said Child Protection Centre has been set up in Federal Capital aimed at providing education, shelter and healthcare facilities to the working and street children.
The government would also establish such kind of centre in Balochistan during next fiscal year, he added. About seminar, Hassan Mangi said it would help increase our understanding on the gaps in the child protection environment that exists in the country.
He asked the stakeholder including law markers and interpreters, law enforcement agencies and civil society to create awareness among the public on child protection rights. Later, Director General FIA, Tariq Parvez appreciated the efforts of Social Welfare Ministry and ensured the FIA would provide all possible support toward that end.
He said FIA has already taken a number of initiatives to eliminate human trafficking in the country. Senior officials and representatives from relevant ministries, law enforcement and international donor agencies and NGOs were also present on the occasion.
