An Additional District and Sessions Judge allowed bails to Dr Masood and Dr Rafique Zaki of Masood Hospital, Dr Shafiq and Dr Omer of Al Shaafi Hospital, Dr Rehmat Ali, Dr Rana Amjad of the Rashid Hospital involved in illegal kidney transplantation business.
The court allowed bail after complainant contended before the court that these are not the doctors who are involved in kidney transplantation. According to the prosecution the Factory Area police had raided three hospitals of the city - Masood Hospital, Rashid Hospital and Al Shaafi Hospital- from where they had arrested doctors, guards and others accused of running the business of illegal trade of kidneys.
The police had also recovered 10 'kidney donors' including a woman being kept at a house in Liaqatabad. Two of them had already been operated upon. The police had registered a case against them under Sections 109, 334, 337, 337-J, 347, 365/108 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The doctors were facing trial since then.
