15 Jun, 2007

A full bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) called for report from Inspector General of Punjab Police pertaining to the prevailing crime situation in Sheikhupura range.
The court passed these orders during the course of proceedings in a petition filed by a member of Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) M D Tahir against the police department for its failure to maintain law and order in the province.
The court observed that the report should contain the statistics of registration of cases, nature of crimes and result of investigation carried out so far. The court also directed the law officer Najeeb Faisal to furnish particulars of each and every BS-19 officer serving in police department with his present posting. He shall also explain as to what step has been taken to post BS-19 officer as DPOs in order to fulfil the requirement of Police Order 2002.
The court reprimanded the deputy attorney who failed to appear before the court after repeated notices directed him to establish contact with the Establishment Division and find out as to what hindered the provision of requisite number of BS-19 officers to the province of Punjab. The court after passing necessary directions to the concerned officials adjourned the proceedings till June 28.
