Jamaat-e-Islami on Thursday expressed shock and horror on the attack on the Mosque of Imam Askari in Samarra, Iraq, resulting in demolition of its two historic minarets.
The Askariya Shrines of Imam Hassan Askari, Imam Ali Raza and Al-Askari Masjid, in Samarra city of Iraq, was attacked on Wednesday, toppling its towering minarets.
"It is unimaginable to think that any Muslim could have committed such an horrendous act," Jamaat Deputy Chief Senator Professor Khurshid Ahmad said. "All major sects of Muslims are like different colours of the rainbow and this is the effort of the strategists of American imperialism to divide the Ummah and array one group against the other," Khurshid said in a statement.
"This cruel and criminal activity is taking place in Iraq and others are being made to ignite the fire and make Muslim fight against each other," he said. The Jamaat leader condemned the horrendous attack and said this is an act of the occupying forces in Iraq. "I also appeal to all Muslim people to condemn such activities and to remain united and steadfast in this hour of trial," he concluded.
