Divergent trend was seen in the currency market at the weekend in process of trading, dealers said. In the interbank market, the rupee picked up one paisa against dollar for buying at Rs 60.59 while it was unmoved for selling at 60.61, they said.
The rupee's fall versus dollar was expected as the buyers outstripped the sellers, money experts said. Some exporters were in the market but many importers were active to purchase dollars to clear the payment bills, they said. In the world markets, dollar briefly slipped at the closing session of the week after a report showed May US core consumer inflation lower than expected, pushing down Treasury yields.
The euro climbed against dollar, trading at $1.3330 soon after the report from about $1.3320, where it was shortly prior to the data. Dollar was largely unchanged against yen at about 123.45 yen.
