Multan stinks, nobody cares

19 Jun, 2007

Heaps of garbage, choked drains and overflowing gutters stinking high to the heaven garbage dump are a common sight in various areas of Multan. The city district government is closing its eyes to this unhealthy situation.
Shah Rukne-Alam Municipal Administration, Mumtazabad town and Multan Environment Improvement bosses say they are not responsible for the poor sanitation, as this task falls on the city district government.
Javed Siddiqui MPA of PPP and Nafees Ahmed Ansari MPA of PML-N said that Khuni Burj, Pak-gate, Masoom Shah Road, Writers Colony, Gulberg Colony and more than a dozen localities are stinking and dirty. One can see overflowing gutters spewing stinking sewage and heaps of rubbish on the roadsides, making the life of the area people and passers'-by life miserable.
One can see garbage spilling over well into the middle of the road creating a terrible stink in the area. Similarly, in Shheen Market adjacent to the girls school is being used as garbage dump.
A terrible stink can be felt pervading the market environment. The just-completed dual carriageway has also become a garbage dump, causing inconvenience to the pedestrians and motorists. Plastic bags, kitchen refuse and garbage can be seen strewn on the road, but the city district government is least bothered about its disposal.
