Egypt's state-owned Food Industries Company said on Wednesday it had cancelled a tender for 30,000 tonnes of soyabeans, saying prices were too high. "In fact, we cancelled the tender because the prices are high. It was not convenient for us," a company official said, asking not to be named.
He said he had only received one offer, from Toepfer, at $381.79 per tonne. He said he was looking for offers closer to $350 per tonne. Food Industries Company had sought to buy 30,000 tonnes of soyabeans on a cost and freight basis for shipment during the first half of August.
