The government has decided to establish agriculture markets across the country to facilitate farmers in future trading of different agriculture commodities at the local level, well-placed sources told Business Recorder on Thursday.
The proposed markets, which will be established for every 10 to 15 villages all over the country on experimental basis, will be part of the Crop Maximisation Project (CMP)-II, which will be implemented from next month, according to the sources.
The sources, however, said the proposal was in the initial stages and the concept would be discussed with other stakeholders, including provincial governments, private sector and other relevant government ministries in due course of time. The proposed markets will provide an opportunity to the farmers to market their agriculture produce locally with a guarantee that they will get fair prices. The farmers would have the facility of selling their commodities with a contract with the buyers that the latter would provide money at a latter stage, the sources said.
For instance, the farmer can sign a deal with the buyer that he would provide money after three months of the selling. The payment would be made according to market prices at the time of payment and not at the time of selling, which was done three months back, they added.
