Justice Javed Iqbal of the Supreme Court on Friday granted time to a Pakistani national Gohar Ajmal Cheema to resolve family matter with his Italian wife Sartori Tiziana. The judge, who heard the case in his chamber, directed the couple to appear before him again in his chamber on Saturday (Today).
Cheema requested many times for making efforts to resolve the matter amicably and the judge accepted the request, which was not opposed by Cheema's wife. Assistant Advocate General Punjab, Raja Saeed Akram, submitted a report from the Superintendent of Police (Investigation) City Division Lahore. According to the report, the Italian woman had informed the SHO Naulakha Police Station, Lahore, on telephone that she wanted registration of a case against her husband.
"No case has been registered so far. However, if any case is registered on her complaint, the investigation would be carried out in accordance with law, rules and procedure," the report said.
Sartori Tiziana married Gohar Ajmal Cheema, resident of Lahore, in England. After sometime, Gohar Ajmal Cheema came to Pakistan and did not go back for months, the report said. Mrs Sartori, currently in Pakistan, brought the matter to the knowledge of the Lahore police verbally, besides giving statements to the press.
The Supreme Court took suo motu notice on the complaint of the Italian woman and issued notice to Advocate General Punjab, Lahore Police and the relevant parties to appear before the court. On Friday, Assistant Advocate General, a representative of the Lahore Police and the couple appeared before the court in accordance with the court notice.
