Enough water available to meet provinces' demand: Irsa

23 Jun, 2007

Indus River System Authority (Irsa) on Thursday said river inflows recorded at 258,500 are quite satisfactory and are being augmented by the available storage of 5 MAF to meet with the provincial demands.
According to Irsa, the provinces are in receipt of their full indents of 125,000 cusecs, 170,000 cusecs, 12,000 cusecs and 3,000 cusecs to Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and North West Frontier Province respectively. The authority said due to fluctuation of temperature in the catchment areas, variation in river inflows is a normal phenomenon.
It said the water stored in the reservoirs is 2 MAF more that the last year and with the increase in temperature of catchment area water position will further improve.
The water utilised by the provinces during April 1 to June 20, 2007 as compared with last year and post Tarbela average utilisation by the provinces is evident that provinces received ever maximum supplies during the period as compared with the last year.
