25 Jun, 2007

City Nazim Mustafa Kamal, expressing grief over the loss of lives in Saturday's rain, has said that the signboards that fell in the storm were not in the jurisdiction of the city government.
He said that only four signboards in CDGK administered areas were felled by fast blowing winds, but did not cause any harm to anyone. These hoardings only hampered the traffic, for a while, and were immediately removed, and the roads were cleared.
The signboards that caused casualties were not in the jurisdiction of CDGK. It may be mentioned here that Cantonment Board, Railways, Police and CAA also have their billboards installed at various sites. It is learnt that signboards in the jurisdiction of Cantonment Board caused most of the loss. The CDGK has also announced for the deceased: Rs100,000 each for employed ones; and Rs 50,000 for the unemployed.
