Fish farming has assumed the form of an industry in the province and farmers can earn reasonable income by setting up fish farms even on their marginal lands. Punjab Minister for Fisheries Sardar Dariya Khan Gopang said this while presiding over a departmental meeting here on Sunday.
He said that as a result of the initiatives taken by the Punjab government, fish farming is progressing in the province. He said that farmers could contact Fisheries Department to get soft loans on two-percent mark-up.
He said that besides 14 large hatcheries operated by the department 29 nursing units are supplying fish seeds to farmers throughout the province while more than 70 hatcheries in private sector are supplying seed to meet the increasing demand.
