26 Jun, 2007

The Lahore High Court has adjourned the proceeding of multi-million IMAX Theatre, at Mini Market Ground, Gulberg till June 27 in a constitutional petition challenging its construction.
The bench comprising Justice Sakhi Hussain Bukhari, Justice M Bilal Khan and Justice Fazl-e-Miran Chohan put off the proceedings, as the petitioner's counsel did not appear before the court due to his personal engagements.
The petition was moved on behalf of 11 residents and NGO-citizens for better environment against the construction of the theatre.
The counsel submitted that according to LDA plan chalked out in 1950, this land was declared a park; therefore, construction of a building at the place was illegal. He also challenged transfer of Mini Market Ground from the LDA to the PHA and then to the PEC on the plea that the whole process was against the law.
