The authorities of local health office have declared Hepatitis B and C spreading situation as alarming in the district and confirmed that it is spreading rapidly due to lack of awareness and preventive measures.
District Health Officer (DHO) Dr Javaid Warriach told that the health office conducted Hepatitis B and C screening tests of more than 3000 people during a recently held free screening camp at Govt. Allama Iqbal Memorial DHQ Hospital.
He said that out of these 3000 people, as many as 550 people were found suffering from Hepatitis C positive and 142 people found Hepatitis B positive. DHO said that these results are very alarming.
These results clearly show that Hepatitis B and C is spreading rapidly in district. DHO said that the total population of the district is 3.4 million, out of which, more than 600,000 people are the victim of Hepatitis. He said that the federal, provincial and district governments should address this burning situation through making some immediate preventive and awareness raising measures, besides arranging more free Hepatitis screening camps in district.
He said that the major cause behind this larger scale spreading of Hepatitis is use of contaminated water being supplied by the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) to city's almost all the congested residential areas, due to which the Water Born Diseases (WBDs) are also on rise in Sialkot.
