Indo-Pak symposium on local government from July 2

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi will be the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of a two-day Indo-Pakistan Symposium on Local Government here on Monday (July 2). Punjab Governor, Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) will be the chief guest at the concluding ceremony of the symposium on Tuesday.
Among others Indian Punchayat Raj (Local Government) Minister, Mani Shankar Aiyar, Chairman National Reconstruction Bureau, Daniyal Aziz and delegates from India and Pakistan will attend the symposium.
National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB) is organising the symposium which will discuss post-colonial administration and its effects on governance, fiscal decentralisation, fiscal capacity and financial management at the local level and the outcomes of the local government system in Pakistan and India with focus on public accountability, community empowerment and e-governance.
Meanwhile, the 57-member Indian delegation led by Panchayati Raj Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar is arriving here on Saturday (June 30) to attend the symposium.
The delegation will be comprised of State Ministers, Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assemblies, the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Digvijay Singh, officials from the Union Panchayati Raj Ministry and experts in the field of local governance and sociologists.
