Appreciating that over 100,000 people trained by Navtec have got jobs within the country or abroad, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz Friday asked Navtec to expand the scope and coverage of their training programmes to meet the high demand and bridge the existing skills gap in the country.
He was chairing a high level meeting here this morning to review the progress made by National Vocational and Technical Education Commission (Navtec) on the special initiatives launched on the Prime Minister's directives.
The Prime Minister said that as a result of high demand resulting from high growth there is shortage of skilled manpower in a number of areas particularly hospitality, construction, light engineering and services sector and the government is providing need-based, fast track training to the youth to enhance their employment prospects.
"The Navtec programmes will reduce skills gaps, improve employability chances and the trained workers will help the government sustain the growth momentum", he said.
The Prime Minister emphasised that Navtec should identify training needs in consultation with private sector, government organisations and civil society and the private sector should join hands for best results.
He said the government would continue to invest in the technical education and will bear all expenses of the training, with Rs 1000 stipend provided to the students. The Prime Minister asked the Chairman Navtec to increase the scope of training programmes and include more disciplines, ensuring that the training facilities are provided at every Tehsil level.
