Cutting trees: LHC summons Tepa officials

30 Jun, 2007

The Lahore High Court (LHC) called report from Traffic Engineering Planning Authority (Tepa) in a petition filed by different non-governmental organisations (NGOs) praying to the court to restrain the respondent from cutting trees from the sides of Lahore canal.
The petitioner NGOs contended that the respondent authority was cutting the trees from the sides of the Lahore canal and causing damage to atmosphere of Lahore.
They contended that the Lahore city had already been facing pollution due to lack of greenery and added that cutting of trees from the canal would increase pollution in the city.
They therefore prayed to the court to restrain the respondents from cutting trees. The court after hearing the petitioners' counsel at length issued notices to the respondents and called for report from Tepa.
